Spain grouped with Netherlands at Brazil 2014 World Cup

Holders Spain have been drawn in the same group as 2010 runners-up Netherlands for the FIFA 2014 World Cup in Brazil.

Vicente del Bosque s side beat the Netherlands 1-0 after extra time in Johannesburg three years ago to win football s greatest honour for the first time.

And they were paired with the Netherlands in Group B at Friday s draw, to be joined by Chile and Australia, who are currently the lowest-ranked team in next year s showpiece.

It is the first time that the previous finalists have been drawn in the same group for the next World Cup, and the repeat of the 2010 showpiece comes as early as the second day of the tournament, with the two sides set to meet in Salvador on June 13.

A day earlier, hosts and five-time winners Brazil will open the tournament with a Group A clash against Croatia in Sao Paulo.

They are joined by Cameroon and Mexico, with the latter beating Brazil 2-1 in the final of the London 2012 Olympics to clinch gold.

Germany – who finished third in South Africa in 2010 – will take on Portugal, Ghana and the United States in Group G.

The three-time World Cup winners face a tough start to the tournament against 2006 semi-finalists Portugal, who needed a play-off win over Sweden to ensure their qualification.

Germany will also be reunited with former coach and player Jurgen Klinsmann, who helped them to victory in 1990 before leading them to the last four in 2006.

Klinsmann is now the United States manager and his side start with a clash against Ghana on June 16.

France s reward for a dramatic comeback in their play-off against Ukraine – they came from 2-0 down to win 3-2 over two legs – is a favourable draw alongside Switzerland, Ecuador and Honduras in Group E.

France were the last team to win the World Cup on home soil in 1998 and they will fancy their chances of reaching the latter stages, despite Switzerland going through their qualification campaign unbeaten.

Honduras have never won a World Cup match in six attempts.

Argentina, who have won the title twice, face Bosnia-Herzegovina, Iran and Nigeria in Group F. The South American nation were also drawn with Nigeria in 2010.

Bosnia-Herzegovina have never competed at a World Cup before and face a tough initiation against Alejandro Sabella s side in Rio De Janeiro on June 15.

Italy have won the World Cup four times but will face a tough task in Group D, with seeds and play-off winners Uruguay to be joined by England and Costa Rica.

Italy s first match will come against Roy Hodgson s side in Manaus on June 14.

Belgium were also undefeated in qualifying and open their first World Cup campaign since 2002 with a Group H clash against Algeria – play-off winners over Burkina Faso – in Belo Horizonte. South Korea and Russia are the other teams in Group H.

And Colombia will face Ivory Coast, Japan and Greece in Group C.

Colombia – who were second in South American qualifying – are competing in their first World Cup since 1998 and open against Greece on June 14.

The 2014 World Cup draw:

Group A: Brazil, Croatia, Mexico, Cameroon

Group B: Spain, Netherlands, Chile, Australia

Group D: Uruguay, Costa Rica, England, Italy
